Another AvantGarder is on board here in Oslo, and this time it is no other than fantastic Mia Garshol. Mia will join the team recruiting within Data Engineering, Analytics and Architecture and thus work together with Albanit and Masa. We took a brief chat with Mia so that people can get to know her better.
Welcome, Mia. Great to have you on board. We know why we hired you, but why did you want to join us? I had just started my master’s degree in public administration and management when I saw the job advertisement AvantGarde Search posted. You wanted a student who could take on a part-time administrative position and I immediately thought that “was me” One thing led to the other and after working in the admin position for a few months with a fantastic gang, I decided that I wanted to put my studies on hold and become a Talent Sourcer. I have great respect for the hard work my colleagues do and can`t wait to get started and join Albanit and Masa. Working for a company that is so open, inclusive and innovative is a chance I just “had” to take.
Well, we are glad you are now joining us full-time Mia, and now that COVID is over (hopefully), how do you see the market? I am optimistic about the labor market now post-COVID. I hope all those having been laid off getting quickly back into work and as for the technology sector? The demand for specialists and management professionals has been there also through COVID. I also think we will see a change in how we work. Well, we are seeing that already and although digitalisation was on everyone’s lips pre-covid, well it is even more so now.
Over to something else. We are in a traditionally, or some will say conservative industry, something in which we want to change. What do you think about our focus on agile recruitment services? I associate the concept of agile recruitment with the organic flow and speed that occurs in a recruitment process, where you are not fixated or locked to one way of doing things. Rather the opposite. Instead of focusing on defined processes and tools, the focus should be on the goal (successful hire) and change and adapt along the way to get to the goal. Or more simply put; start, stop, analyse, learn, change etc. And before I forget: a close dialogue between all stakeholders is the absolute key.

Who are you?
I am a young and energetic woman and mother, who loves to read a book or watch a sci-fi movie, maybe while eating a good homemade meal. Although I must admit that both Foodora and Wolt are used frequently in our home. I can not boast that I am particularly active, or that I was “born on skis”, but I do not turn down a trip along Akerselva, a group lesson at SATS or an hour of squash with good friends.
My best vacation was the time I went to Cuba. We were travelling around and visited; Havanna, Vedado and Vinales. I still dream of the old American cars, banana chips with pulled pork and drinking a mojito with live music on every street corner. When we travelled, we were students on a budget, so we had a 12-hour layover in Canada, but the whole experience was absolutely fantastic and I hope I get to go back with my daughter one day.
I have always loved cats and even have a little kitty named “Stille” (Quiet) Otherwise, I am very fond of watching clips of animals being rescued on YouTube.
When it comes to music, I listen to everything. I have a soft spot for Norwegian hip hop or rap, especially if they are a bit political or address social issues.
There is nothing I do not eat! I usually say that food has a different value at different times. A good juicy burger on a Sunday morning from “Døgnvill” or a brunch with pancakes and avocado toast at “Grådig”. If I am going out to have some glasses of wine or drinks, there is little that tempts more than dim sum at “Ling Ling” or a good pizza at “Lofthus Samvirkelag”. I also love Indian or Pakistani food, and nothing is better than a takeaway after work from “Gutta fra Calcutta” or “Punjabi Tandoori”
